Ferry; A place between city parts
Personal work | documentary, environmental portraits
The ferries on the Amsterdam ‘IJ’ channel adjacent to the Central Station are an important connection between the city center and the North part. Every day they transport about 36.750 people to the other side of the IJ channel. After a short race to be on time, passengers are trying to find the right spot. While the sound of the engine swells, they stare ahead. Densely packed, they stay on the ferry boat. During the five-minute crossing it’s possible to see the city from a distance. The wind, the sloshing water and the wide view allow a short moment to escape from the hustle of the city.
A project reflecting at contemporary city life and the value of quiet moment.
